LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The legal challenges for a Grand Haven man who wants to represent the Lakeshore in Lansing continue.
The state Supreme Court ruled that Brandon Hall can face 10 felony charges for forging the names of several people in nominating petitions during the 2012 Grand Haven District Court campaign of Chris Houghtaling, which led to Houghtailing failing to have enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. The 26-year-old Hall had argued that he should only be charged with misdemeanors and had won such judgments in both the circuit court and appealate court levels.
However, the state High Court ruled that Michigan Election Law gives prosecutors the leverage to seek greater charges. Hall is now expected to be arraigned on those felony charges in Grand Haven District Court.
A Grand Valley State University graduate, Hall has been a noted online political blogger since he resigned from the Grand Haven School Board in 2010 following a conviction for stealing from a high school fundraising campaign. He is currently seeking the GOP nomination for the 89th state House seat that Park Township’s Amanda Price will be forced to relinquish at year’s end due to term limits.
