HOLLAND (WHTC) – The killings in Orlando early Sunday morning have shaken communities and individuals across the country. Today we mourn the loss of those who have died, and we think of those who have been injured and are beginning the long road of recovery. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this horrific act, along with their families and friends.
This context has become too familiar in our nation. We grow weary and overwhelmed at the news of another shooting; more violence and death. For many, fear sets in as we react to yet another national tragedy. But let us not allow fear to influence our spirit of oneness; let us reject the tendency to withdraw. We grow stronger through unity, and we overcome evil and hatred through embracing one another in acceptance.
The Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance seeks to advance unity among all people. It is our deep hope that people across the nation would see this terrible act of violence as a reminder to stand together, support one another, and recognize that love and care for our neighbors will break down the barriers and fears that divide so many. What we share in common unites us, but embracing our differences unites us as well.
Today our hearts are with Orlando.
