HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 72-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash south of Hudsonville Sunday morning in Jamestown Township.
According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, 16-year-old Austin Lynema, who has a level 1 learner’s permit, was headed west on Riley when he proceeded into the intersection of 32nd Avenue without seeing a motocyclist who was headed northbound.
The motorcyclist, 72-year-old Robert Townsend of Kalamazoo, hit the minivan on the driver’s side. Townsend was hospitalized with critical injuries and transported to Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Lynema was traveling with his mother Bridget Lynema, who was in the front passenger seat along with six other family members in the vehicle. Townsend was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.
There were no reports of anyone in the minivan being hurt.
