Winters are always challenging in West Michigan, but the residents of the City of Holland certainly know how to defrost their gardens after a cold few months!
Holland in Bloom, in conjecture with Carolyn Stich Studio, Jonker’s Garden, JW Greenhouses, Chemical Bank, New Holland Beer & Spirits, Above & Beyond Catering, and Windmill Island Gardens are sponsoring the Blizzards to Blooms- Third Time’s a Charm! Garden Competition, tied in with the 2016 America in Bloom competition.
The contest, which is in its third year, will feature a Home Garden contest and a business contest, which is open to all residential properties within the City of Holland. Entrants to the contest are encouraged to submit photographs of their gardens during the winter time and are required to submit up to five summer photographs, as well as an official entry form.
Contest entries will be accepted between June 10 and July 10, 2016. The Home Garden Contest Grand Prize is an original drawing of the winner’s home or garden by local artist Carolyn Stich. The Grand Prize winner, as well as the runner up and two Special Mention winners, will receive gift certificates from either Jonker’s Garden or JW Greenhouse. Business winner will receive a special Certificate of Merit.
All winners will be recognized at a dinner on July 21. 2016, during the visit to Holland by the America in Bloom judges. The City of Holland is entering the America in Bloom contest for the 6th consecutive year, having won its population category in each of the first four years, the Circle of Champions mid-sized Cities category in 2015, and one criteria award in each of the five years of participation.
