HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Donations have helped put the Port Sheldon buoy back in Lake Michigan.
According to WOOD TV 8, it’s the most popular buoy to track in the Great Lakes, with nearly a million clicks last year on its website. The buoy transmits wind speed, wave height, and water temperature.
LimnoTech operates the buoy and teamed up with the Ann Arbor-based nonprofit Great Lakes Observing System to raise the 25-thousand dollars needed to operate it this year. It was placed in the water off the shore of Port Sheldon Township yesterday.
The buoy is anchored three miles off the shore of Port Sheldon until the end of October. The buoy cam is updated every 10 minutes wth real time observations.
