A Hamilton woman was killed in a single car accident early Sunday morning.
According to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, a 20-year-old male was driving a 2001 Ford Escape northbound on 32nd Avenue, north of Adams Street in Jamestown Township just before 5:30 a.m. when the driver fell asleep at the wheel, steered the car into a ditch, and crashed into a driveway abutment.
The driver, whose name is being withheld pending investigation, suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The passenger of the Ford Escape, 19-year-old Hope Elizabeth Klinkers of Hamilton, was also not wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the impact. The crash is still being investigated by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
