HOLLAND (WHTC) — Holland Department of Public Safety detectives are investigating a suspicious situation reported as occurring at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19.
A 10-year-old boy told police he was approached by a stranger in a car while the boy was walking west on 15th Street near Columbia Aveue, according to a statement issued by police on Friday afternon.
The car pulled alongside the boy on the roadway and the male driver called out the window asking the child to get in the car, police said.
A couple walking in the area witnessed the interaction between the driver and boy and they approached the scene — but driver drove off, according to police.
The couple checked on the boy and he walked home, according to police.
The statement goes on to note that the driver’s intentions are unknown at this time, “however, Holland officers are attempting to identify him in order to question him on this incident.”
The driver is described as “a white male in his 30’s, tan with some facial hair who was wearing sunglasses and a dark-colored baseball cap,” according to the police statement.
The suspect vehicle is described as an “older, rusty, four-door Pontiac Sunfire with a rear fin and no hubcaps.”
