HOLLAND (WHTC) — Herrick District Library officials will ask voters to renew a 1.5 percent millage this year.
The current millage, passed in 1996, expires this year.
That money comprises 85 percent of Herrick’s annual funding. Voters will be asked to consider renewing it for 14 years, starting in 2017 and expected to deliver an estimated $5.2 million a year.
Without the millage, the library’s two branches will have to close within a year.
With the millage, library officials can consider reinstating its evening and Sunday hours, cut in 2009.
Herrick District Library has two branches, serving the City of Holland and the townships of Park, Holland and Laketown.
The millage will be on the Aug. 2nd ballot.
