HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC) – A 13-year-old student at Hudsonville Christian has partnered with 20 Liters to organize a Walk for Water on May 21, 2016.
Abraham is all too familiar with the daily struggle for water. Born in Liberia, his parents passed away by the time he was five. His daily chores included spending over two hours every day making trips to a nearby well in order to gather enough water for the family. In 2011, he was adopted along with his sister Jacey by a Michigan family, Trent and Tammy Rapphun. In his first year living here he gained 15 pounds and grew over six inches. Tammy attributes this growth spurt in large part to drinking clean water.
“When we walk for water, we show solidarity with the nearly 1 billion people who must walk every day to collect the water they need to survive,” says Chip Kragt, 20 Liters’ Managing Director. “Our supporters have been organizing walks around Michigan and Ohio since 2010, but this one will be special for us because of Abraham’s experiences.”
The Walk for Water will take place Saturday May 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Abraham’s House located at 2007 Cory Drive in Hudsonville. Parking is at Victory Farms, Hudsonville [Unless someone is dropping you off at the walk location on Cory Dr., please park your car here]
The walk is 3 miles and you should bring clean milk jugs, 2-liter bottles or buckets.
