GEORGETOWN TWP, MI (WHTC) – A 22-year-old Grandville man is in serious condition after his 2001 Saturn was stuck in a three-vehicle crash and forced on the CSX train tracks at the intersection of Chicago Drive and Cottonwood Drive Sunday evening May 8, 2016..
According to Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Kendall Piper, 16, of Hudsonville was westbound on Chicago Drive in a 2006 Jeep when she failed to stop at a red light. Piper struck Kevin VanderMeer’s car and forced it onto the train tracks. Piper’s Jeep then struck Brianna Warners, 17, of Jenison who was driving a 1999 Toyota. Both the vehicles came to rest in the intersection.
VanderMeer was the only person injured in the crash. He was found non-responsive and trapped in his car. He was extricated by the jaws of life by the Georgetown Fire Department and transported to Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids.
All parties were wearing their seatbelts and Piper’s front seat passenger was Landen Piper, 14 and the rear seat passenger Jillian Piper, 12 of Hudsonville and were not injured. Warner’s passenger Tyler Nienhuis, 20, of Zeeland was not injured in the crash.
Kendall Piper was cited for failing to stop at a red light.
