HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The West Ottawa Board of Education cited Superintendent Thomas Martin as being “an ourstanding leader” as part of the board of education’s evaluation of his performance.
Martin was lauded for meeting or exceeding measurements the board established for the academic year in three areas: increasing student achievement; attracting and retaining students and staff; and effectively and efficiently using district resources.
Martin was quick to credit his team.
“We cannot get the results we do without the hard work of everyone on the team: teachers, administrators, support staff and of course students,” he said, according to the news release.
West Ottawa received a “green” proficiency rating and achieved significant higher scores than the state average on the first MSTEP testing, despite 47% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch, the second highest level in Ottawa Intermediate School District.
