HOLLAND (WHTC) — Visitation for the Herman Miller’s former CEO, the late Richard Hurley (Dick) Ruch, who died on April 22, 2016, is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Dykstra Funderal Home Mulder Chapel on 32nd Street in Holland.
He was 86.
The Indiana native and man of deep faith was a Holland High, Hope College and Michigan State University graduate.
as an accountant who worked his way to the top of Herman Miller during his 45-year career — from vice president of manufacturing to chief financial officer, CEO and board chairman. His unwavering support for innovation led to the Aeron chair designs. And he put great faith in those who worked on the shop floor, according to his obiturary.
Company officials said in an email to media they are deeply saddened by Mr. Ruch’s death and exoressed sympathies to his family and wide circle of friends. The noted said Mr. Ruch is a “true hero” of the company for his avid engagement and inclusiveness.
Mr. Ruch has other interest beyond work and his church. He play trumpet and as an athlete was an 8-time senior Olympics gold medalist in tennis.
Mr. Ruch was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Patty Lou (Overbeek), and his daughter, Christine (Sligh) and daughter in law Nancy Ruch.
He’s survived by an extended family, including his sons, Richard and his wife Renee of Kingston, New York, Michael, of Kentwood, and Douglas and his wife (Linda) of Zeeland, along with their families and his daughter Christine Sligh’s family.
Mr. Ruch’s memorial service is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Christ Memorial Church in Holland.
