HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A late morning accident blocked off one of Holland’s major traffic arteries for much of Tuesday.
According to Holland Public Safety officers, a dump truck bucket snagged fiber optic cable lines over southbound Pine Avenue between 1st and 2nd streets, causing a utility pole off of the east side of the roadway to snap and downing several lines. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.
Authorities blocked off southbound traffic at Douglas Avenue in Holland Township in order to help facilitate repairs by Holland BPW and AT&T crews. The incident didn’t affect northbound River Avenue traffic heading out of the downtown district to Holland’s North Side.
Holland Public Safety Captain Jack Dykstra said that Pine Avenue was temporarily reopened around 2 PM as crews were getting necessary materials, but will be blocked off again around 3 PM for approximately four more hours as a new utility pole is installed and the lines are restrung over the roadway. There was no immediate word as to how many Holland BPW fiber optic customers were affected by the incident.
