HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) –
The Holland Area Arts Council opened its galleries to the Holland Friends of Art (HFA) members last Thursday with a reception and award ceremony to celebrate the HFA Spring Show.
Fifty-two pieces of art work was narrowed down by juror Doug Klemm from the original 82 pieces that were submitted by 46 members of the HFA. Those 52 pieces are now on display for the public at the Holland Area Arts Council, located at 150 E. 8th Street in downtown Holland. During the awards ceremony, Klemm selected James Johnson’s Three Pears on a Box, a watercolor painting, as the first place winner of the exhibition.
The Holland Friends of Art also donates artwork from the exhibit to a nonprofit each year as a Purchase Award. This year Holland Friends of Art chose CASA (Children’s After School Achievement) from Hope College. The nonprofit selects work for their office space and Holland Friends of Art purchases the artwork from the artist or artists. A representative from CASA selected two pieces: Carissa Buursma’s watercolor, Spring Relent, and Kristi Visser’s mixed media piece, Spring Prelude.
A People’s Choice Award will be given after Tulip Time in mid-May. Over the course of the coming weeks, visitors can vote on their favorite work, and the winning artist will receive recognition and a cash prize. The exhibition will run until June 11.
