HOLLAND (WHTC) — Park Township Republican Amanda Price is wrapping up her final term as Michigan’s 89th District Representative.
Three Republicans are vying for the chance to succeed her: Grand Haven resident Brandon Hall, Robinson Township Supervisor Tracy Stille-Mulligan; and commercial banker Jim Lilly of Holland. one Democrat, Grand Haven resident Tim Meyer, is running.
Stille-Mulligan is now in her second term as supervisor and previously served as a Robinson Township trustee. She is a third-generation farmer and has worked as a teacher. She and her huband Bill have four children.
Lilly has worked as an investment banker currently pursuing an MBA at Grand Valley State University. His wife, Sarah, is a realtor. Lilly got an early taste of politics while working as a page in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Hall is somewhat notorious in West Michigan, known both as a political blogger and as a font for a series of political scandals, starting with his brief term Grand Haven school board in 2010, cut short when he resigned after being accused (and lated convicted) of stealing $750 from a school-based American Cancer fundraiser. He later tested positive for marijuana, a violation of his probation.
He withdrew from an attempted an 89th district state house run in 2010.
In 2012, Hall was charged with fraud for falsifying signatures on petitions in an unrelated election. Hall has been fighting those charges and just this year, Michigan’s Supreme Court heard the arguments as to whether he would face 10 felony election law forgery charges or if the charges should have been misdemeanors. Hall admitted to forging signatures on petitions for Grand Haven attorney Chris Houghtaling bid for an Ottawa County District Court judgeship in 2012.
Hall’s actions during last year’s Grand Haven City Council campaign were questioned by a candidate Hall supported, according to an MLive report.
