HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Hope College is mourning the loss of two former long-time professors and coaches.
According to Hope College’s website, Gordon M. Brewer ’48 and Dr. William R. Vanderbilt ’61 made impacts on students and the campus for decades. Both men did their undergraduate work at Hope and spent decades teaching and coaching.
They died within days of one another with Mr. Brewer passing away on Sunday, April 17 at the age of 92 and Mr. Vanderbilt passing on Friday, April 15 at the age of 76.
Brewer taught and coached at Hope from 1956 until he retired in 1988. Vanderbilt taught and coached at Hope from 1967 until leaving to become a founding member of Freedom Village in Holland.
Visitation for Mr. Brewer is Thursday, April 21 at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home at 315 16th Street in Holland with a service at 11 a.m. at Third Reformed Church, East 13th Street in Holland. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Vanderbilt is Friday, April 22 at Dykstra Funeral Home, 188 West 32nd Street in Holland from 5-8 p.m. with the funeral on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m. at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Road.
