HOLLAND (WHTC) — Holland Township’s board of trustees agreed at Thursday’s regular meeting to ask residents to renew a millage that supports nearly 70 miles of non-motorized paths, used by bicyclists, walkers and others.
Holland Township Supervisor Terry Nienhuis says the current 8-year millage expires at the end of this year. Money is needed to maintain the paths, some of which date back to 1981.
This year alone, the township will spend $156,000 for repairs on several sections of the paths, on Franklin Street, Analine Road and Beeline road, as well as a retaining wall on Butternut and a crossing at Greenly Street and 112th Avenue.
Nienhuis said the path are popular, especially for casual bicyclists. The millage renewal would be .0005 less than the last millage, dropping from .005 to .0045.
Voters will see the issue on the Aug. 2 ballot.
