HOLLAND (WHTC) — The final evening in Herrick District Library’s three-part series on race is set for Wednesday.
Award-winning author Claudia Rankine‘s book “Citizen: An American Lyric,” is this year’s selection for Holland’s Community Reading Project.
Rankine will talk about the experiences of people she interviewed as inspiration for her book, which recounts racial aggressions, intentional or not, that people of color experience daily.
“Citizen: An American Lyric” won the National Book Critics’ Circle Award for Poetry, among other honors.
An art exhibit by students in the greater Holland area will be at Herrick’s main library focusing on the students’ responses to Rankine’s writing.
Rankine’s visit is free and open to the public, with a book signing following the program. Auditorium doors open at 6 p.m. with the program set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, at the main library, 300 South River Ave. in Holland.
Herrick District Library is typically closed on Wednesdays, so visitors this week will not be able to check out materials.
