HOLLAND (WHTC) — A chemical leak in a Zeeland factory Friday night caused evacuations and a lockdown at Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital, according to reports by the Holland Sentinel and the Grand Rapids Press.
Zeeland fire and hazmat crews worked for about five hours to contain a noxious gas leak reported late Friday night at Vertellus Specialties. No injuries were reported.
The plant is at 215 North Centennial St. in Zeeland and MLive Grand Rapids reporting the leaked chemical was trichloride phosphorus.
Zeeland firefighters were aided at the scene by the Ottawa County Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue Team and a chemical contractor for Vertellus, which is headquartered in Indianapolis.
Vertellus is a global company which makes pharmaceuticals and materials for personal care, nutrition, agriculture, specializing in green technologies, according to the company’s website.
