HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC) – A family of South Sudan refugees in Holland will receive at least 22-hundred dollars raised by students at Hudsonville Christian Middle School.
WOOD TV 8 reports Sixth grader Braedyn Dykstra says she started raising the money to help the refugees after hearing her pastor talk about the Syrian refugee crisis in church. She and the school began their fundraising effort in September.
The resettlement of the Mayom family was sponsored by the school. They moved to Holland three weeks ago from South Sudan. Hudsonville Christian Middle School partnered with Bethany Christian Services.
The first $200 was donated by a sixth grade boy who gave all of the profits from his 4-H animals that were sold at the Hudsonville Fair. Other grades collected bedroom items, bathrooom items and kitchen items.
