HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A 37-year-old Holland resident is in stable condition after being thrown from his bike at the intersection of Lakewood Boulevard and River Avenue Wednesday evening March 24, 2016.
According to Sgt. Jay Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Eldred, 21, of Holland was driving a 2005 Mercury Mariner turning southbound onto River Avenue on a green light according to witnesses. Daniel Ruiz was northbound on a bicycle on the sidewalk and rode directly into the path of Eldred’s vehicle.
Witnesses confirmed Ruiz rode his bike directly into the intersection against the do not cross signal. Ruiz was not wearing a helmet and did not have any type of light affixxed to his bicycle.
Ruiz suffered minor injuries and was taken to Holland Community Hospital in stable condition. Eldred was not injured in the crash which remains under investigation.
