GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, MI (WHTC) – Two men were involved in a personal injury car crash in Georgetown Township early Saturday morning.
Jenison resident Joshua Geerts, 17, was heading northbound on Baldwin Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. when he ran a red light at the intersection of Baldwin and 20th Avenue, according to Jay Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
At that same moment, 23-year-old Cody Braat of Grandville was travelling eastbound on 20th Ave and was trying to cross that intersection while towing a boat with his 2008 Dodge Ram. Geerts and Braat weren’t able to avoid colliding in the intersection.
The crash left Geerts pinned inside his vehicle for a short time before Georgetown Township Fire and Rescue were able to extricate him. Reports say that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Geerts was then transported to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids and is listed in serious condition. Braat was uninjured in the crash. This incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
