HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Nature hikes, live music, and comedy performances are just a few of the things on this week’s list of things to do in the Holland Area!
3/14 Monday: Winter Knickerbocker Film Series: The Carter’s, The Cash’s and the Course of Country Music- The Winding Stream is a 90-minute High Definition music history documentary-in-progress that tells the story of the American roots music dynasty, the Carters and the Cashes. Starting with the Original Carter Family (A.P., Sara, Maybelle), the film traces the ebb and flow of their influence, the transformation of that act into the Carter Sisters, the marital alliance with legend Johnny Cash and the efforts of present-day family to keep this legacy alive. No one has yet pulled together all the elements of this family saga in one documentary. The goal of The Winding Stream is to honor this multi-generational family where it stands — at the headwaters of American roots music. 86 East 8th Street, Holland; 7:30pm; $7 Adults, $6 Senior, Faculty & Staff, FREE for Hope Students with ID.
3/15 Tuesday: Every spring, the Holland Area Arts Council presents Début, our High School Juried Art Exhibition. This exhibition gives high school students the opportunity to experience the process of a real juried exhibition and to showcase their talents. Through this experience, we hope to instill in them the joy and the challenge that art brings to our lives. This year, fourteen area high schools will participate in the exhibition including Allendale, Black River, Careerline Techn, Coopersville, Fennville, Grand Haven, Hamilton, Holland Christian, Jenison, Sauguatuck, Wester Ottawa and Zeeland. Each art instructor may submit 16 pieces from their students. Every year, the Arts Council chooses a juror from the artistic community whose task is to choose 100 pieces to be displayed. While this creates a tremendous amount of excitement around the show, it also injects the element of competition that exists in any juried exhibition. 150 E 8th St, Holland; 10am-8pm; Free.
