HOLLAND (WHTC) — A morning crash on 120th Avenue, near Quincy Street, knocked out power to traffic signals on U.S. 31 from Riley to James streets and left 265 Consumers Energy Holland Township customers without power Thursday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. David VanderPloeg, Hamilton resident David Westrate, 70, suffered a medical incident that cause him to lose control of his 1996 Ford dump truck, which was towing a utility trailer.
Westrate’s truck had been headed north on 120th Avenue, when it veered off the east side of the road into a ditch, colliding with a wire stabilitizing a Consumers Energy utility pole.
The crash happened at 9:42 a.m. Thursday, near 120th and a sidestreet, Hickory Row.
He was taken by ambulance to Holland Hosptial, where he was listed in serious condition, VanderPloeg said.
Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies, Holland Township firefighters and AMR Ambulance responded to the call for help.
Consumers Energy crews are making repairs.
The crash remains under investigation.
