HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Stage 1 of the US-31 construction project which will run till Tulip Time will begin next week.Work will be suspended from May 3 to May 15th.
At a Stakeholders meeting last night, MDOT spoke with residents about the Stage 1 of the project. US-31 will be reconstructed between 8th Street and Quincy Street and widened to three lanes in each direction between Quincy Street and Lakewood Boulevard. The US-31 bridges over Lakewood BLVD, CSX Railroad, the Macatawa River and I-196 Business Loop will be improved.
During Stage 1 which starts Monday March 7, traffic will be maintained with lane and shoulder closures. New traffic lights will be installed at the primary intersections of 8th, James, Felch, Riley and Quincy along US-31. The traffic signal work will be conducted primarily utilizing shoulder closures on US-31, and by closing on lane on the east-west cross roads. At least one lane of US-31 in each direction will remain open at all times.
Stage 2 of the project will pick up after Tulip Time and the target completion date for all the work will completed in November of 2016.
