HOLLAND (WHTC) — Ottawa County Commissioner Don Disselkoen says he’ll campaign to keep his Third District office.
For the second consecutive election, Democrat Doug Zylstra filed to run against Disselkoen, but the Holland Republican isn’t too worried about the challenge. He beat Zylstra by about 800 votes two years ago.
Ottawa County is, Disselkoen said, “probably one of the better managed and run counties in the state and we want to continue that.”
Disselkoen has held his county seat for 12 years and is a former Zeeland mayor and councilman. He represents the Michigan Association of Counties on the state’s transportation asset management council and serves on the Michigan Association of Counties’ board.
Disselkoen recently attended the National Association of Counties’ legislative conference in Washington D.C. where officials talked about transportation, funding mental health initiatives and jail reform.
