ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) – A 33-year-old Dorr man will spend the next 55 years in prison.
That sentence was handed down on Monday by Allegan Co. Circuit Court Judge Margaret Zuzich-Bakker to Corey LaValley. He had pleaded no contest in January to second-degree murder charges in a plea deal that spared him mandatory life in prison on first-degree counts.
LaValley was accused of gunning down his girlfriend, 33-year-old Debra Sheppard, and her two children, 12-year-old Emma McComber and 10-year-old Corey LaValley Jr., the son of the accused, last March 9th. The following day, he set fire to her mobile home off of Briarwood Street in Dorr in an apparent attempt to cover up evidence, according to prosecutors, before he was arrested a short time later.
