HOLLAND (WHTC) —
The City of Zeeland is getting a mini-grant of 2 thousand 90 dollars from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
The grant matches annual funding from concert’s charter sponsor, Huntington Bank, which helped pay for the outdoor summer concerts since 2008.
Soundz of Summer Concerts are free for the public and set for every Tuesday evening in July at Lawrence Park, on Lawrence Street, in Zeeland in the World War II-era band shell.
The city restored the band shell in 2009 and it’s become the site of many other concerts and outdoor events
Since Soundz of Summer started, audiences have grown from about 200 attendees each week to more than 800.
The city has hired more than 20 Michigan-based bands — meaning more than 100 musicians are getting paid for their work.
The concerts include concessions run by The Bridge Youth Ministry Center’s board members.
The Holland Area Arts Council administers the concerts’ grant.
