HOLLAND (WHTC) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 19-year-old Hudsonville man suspected of attempting to rob a gas station, then stabbing a customer. The suspect, said Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett, called police dispatchers after the stabbing.
Then he apparently remained on the scene, where, Bennett said, he was arrested without incident by responding officers.
The suspect accosted two clerks at the Mobil station, 4842 Port Sheldon St., just before 6 p.m. Monday. He used a knife to threaten the clerks while demanding cash. The clerks responded by rushing out of the building, Bennett said.
While suspect tried opening the cash register, a 38-year-old man, also from Hudsonville, entered the station. The teen stabbed him and left the building, but called 911, Bennett said.
The stabbing victim got rushed to Spectrum Health Butterworth for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Bennett said.
The suspect was taken to Ottawa County’s jail, Bennett said.
The teen will likely be arraigned Tuesday on charges of assault with intent to commit murder and attempted armed robbery, Bennett said.
