HOLLAND (WHTC) — Three family members were killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Park Township: A Lake Odessa, MI, woman, Patricia Rayner, 62; her daughter, Casey McMaster, 24; and McMaster’s 9-month-old daughter, Madi. The McMasters were from Clarksville, MI.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Ruster said Rayner was driving north on 152nd Avenue at about 11:30 a.m. and failed to stop her Volkswagon Beetle at a stop sign at Quincy Street.
A 3/4-ton GMC pickup truck, driven by Holland resident Brian Rotman, 37, struck the Beetle, which then crashed into a utility pole. Rayner and Casey McMaster were ejected from the Beetle, Ruster said. It’s unclear whether either woman was wearing a seatbelt.
Madi McMaster, he said, was in the center of the rear seat in a properly secured backward-facing infant carrier. Bystanders removed the child and attempted resuscitation as firefighters and paramedics were headed to the scene, Ruster said.
The force of the collision sent Rotman’s truck to the northeast corner of the intersection, where it rolled, landing upside down in ditch, Ruster said.
Rotman and his two children, Isabel Rotman, 5, and Maxwell Rotman, 2, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken for treatment to Holland Hospital, Ruster said. Brian Rotman was wearing a seatbelt and his children were in the back seat with safety restraints, Ruster said.
