HOLLAND (WHTC) — An Ottawa County Sheriff’s reserve deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries while directing traffic at Eagle Crest Academy Friday night, according to Sgt. Jay Douglas.
The deputy was hit by an SUV, despite wearing a traffic safety vest and standing near a patrol car with its lights flashing, Douglas said. He was attempting to stop Riley’s westbound traffic.
The SUV, described as either a Jeep Liberty or Jeep Cherokee, either gray or black in color, struck the deputy in the leg and did not slow or stop. The vehicle continued westbound on Riley, Douglas said.
The collision happened on Riley Street near 120 Avenue, at 8:30 p.m.
The officer was taken to North Ottawa Hospital for treatment of what Douglas said was a minor injury.
