HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Bethany Christian Services, a global nonprofit located in 36 states and working in more than 15 countries, will celebrate Branch Director Steve Eckert’s 25 years of service on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.
Eckert began his career with Bethany in the Paw Paw and Kalamazoo branch offices and has been with the Holland branch for 16 years. Eckert holds a Bachelor of Science in social work and a Master of Arts in counseling psychology, both from Western Michigan University.
“I’ve been honored and humbled to serve our community through Bethany,” said Eckert. “Observing the passion and drive our staff expends to find families for vulnerable children has been inspirational.”
Eckert will be succeeded by Meredith Smillie. In her 15 years with Bethany, Smillie has worked in foster care, foster care adoption, and foster home licensing. Most recently, she was the child welfare program manager in Holland. Smillie holds a Master of Social Work from Grand Valley State University.
“Steve made a difference every day in the lives of his staff and in the lives of the families he served,” said Brad Keller, regional director. “Meredith will continue that strong servant leadership and community engagement.”
Bethany will hold a celebration at the Holland Fish and Game Club, 10840 Chicago Drive, Zeeland, on Tuesday, February 23, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. https://www.bethany.org/holland
