ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – The Zeeland Education fund has partnered with Zeeland Public Schools to support the district wide goal of literacy.
A check was presented to ZPS for $50,000 to support the Phonics First Program. The program is an Orton-Gillingham nationally accredited course that is used to teach literacy. It is a multi-sensory approach that is effective for all students according to Zeeland Public Schools. It’s most effective for those who might be experiencing some reading challenges. They have also implemented Phonics First in all K-2nd grade classrooms this school year and teachers spend 20-25 minutes per day teaching this program.
The Zeeland Education Foundation is selling signed paperback copies of Jim Kaat’s latest book, If These Walls Could Talk, for $20. The book is written from an announcer’s viewpoint while covering the New York Yankees from the broadcast booth. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go directly to the Zeeland Education Foundation. Contact Wendy Rebhan, Executive Director for information at wrebhan@zps.org
