HOLLAND (WHTC) — Amy DeWeerd suffered two traffic crashes Wednesday morning. The second sent her to the hospital, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The
42-year-old Holland resident first lost control of her car while driving south on a curved and icy stretch of 140th Avenue, near Macatawa Bay Middle School. Her car slid across the center line, hitting a northbound vehicle, said Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. David VanderPloeg.
Moments after DeWeerd left her car to check on her passengers, another southbound vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander, lost control on the ice, striking DeWeerd and her 2008 Outlook.
VanderPloeg said drivers appeared to be having trouble on the snow-covered road.
DeWeerd, the only person hurt in the crashes, went by ambulance to Holland Hospital for treatment of what police called minor injuries.
The crashes happened at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday.
