HOLLAND (WHTC) — Republican State Rep. Daniela Garcia announced Monday she’ll seek re-election. This would be her second term of office.
Garcia serves the the 90th District, which includes the cities of Holland, Zeeland and Hudsonville as well as Holland Zeeland and Jamestown Townships.
“So far this term, I have been able to achieve many of the goals that I have set but feel there is more to do,” said Representative Garcia. “There is more work to be done to make sure every child has the opportunity to receive a quality education. More can be done to make sure Michigan’s economy stays strong and is competitive. Finally, there is more to be done to make sure that we efficiently allocate tax dollars so that we’re funding priorities while not over burdening our hard working taxpayers. I will continue to work, on behalf of the residents of the 90th district and of Michigan on these issues each day in Lansing.”
Garcia won her first election in 2014, after an extensive career as one of Pete Hoekstra’s Congressional staff members and serving as a public policy specialist for Spectrum Health Butterworth.
She is vice chair of the House education committee and is a member of two others: Commerce and Trade as well as Health Policy and Regulatory Reform.
The Holland native and West Ottawa High grad holds a master’s degree in education policy and administration from Catholic University.
Her peers elected elected her as the Republican Caucus assistant majority floor leader. Garcia said improving educational outcomes of students remains her top priority.
The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 2; the general election is set for Nov. 8.
