HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) — Holland firefighters from all three stations were called to a small roof fire at Tiara Yachts, 725 E. 40th St. at 8:17 p.m. Monday.
They traced smoke in the building to a rooftop ventilation unit, said Holland Fire Captain Chris Tinney.
Firefighters did find flames in a rooftop ventilation unit, Tinney said, and quickly doused them. The fire caused little damage, he said.
Everyone was safely evacuated from the building and nobody was hurt during the incident, Tinney said.
Graafschap firefighters also responded to the call, as part of a mutual aid agreement.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
“We’ll be working with Tiara Yacht to determine the exact cause and determine a way to prevent it in the future,” Tinney said.
Bitter cold and blowing snow created some physical challenges, Tinney said.”Water, even though we keep it moving, does freeze,” he said. “We have slip-and-fall hazards, and basically walking through the snow — we’ve already got all the gear on already, an extra 30 to 50 pounds, depending on what you carry. Just trudging through the snow is a challenge.”
Tinney said firefighters were called out earlier Monday for another minor commercial fire, at Challenge Machine, this one caused by an errant spark.
