HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Holland Township Board all voted in favor of a resolution on adopting a tax increment and financing plan at last night’s meeting bringing Holland’s SmartZone one step closer to reality.
The Holland Sentinel reports that the SmartZone in Holland will include about 1,000 acres in both Holland Township and the city of Holland. SmartZone districts use tax increment financing dollars for economic development in the technology sector.
If approved by both Holland Township and the city of Holland, the SmartZone would then have to be approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and the state treasury.
The board will hold a public hearing on the plan at their next meeting on January 21 with a Lakeshore Advantage representative on hand to further discuss the proposed SmartZone.
