HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) — Greater Ottawa County United Way looking for a few volunteers to help decide where the money goes in 2016.
United Way’s Director of Community Impact, Liz DeLaLuz, says the best funding decisions need diverse input. Last year United Way dished out $1.3 million for Ottawa County community services.
Volunteers will dedicate 15 to 20 hours in total over three weeks to review program applications, visit the program sites, and discuss how well each applicant helps in one or more of four categories: education, financial stability, health, or basic needs of county residents.
Volunteers can choose which categories to analyze and have a variety of meeting time from which to choose, she said.
“They meet all over the board, Monday through Thursday, whether it’s an evening or morning panel,” DeLaLuz said. “They meet for three weeks, right in a row.”
Volunteers can be anyone who lives, works or invests in Ottawa County and can range from high school students and stay-at-home parents to professionals and corporate executives.
DeLaLuz said it’s a great way to learn about services available throughout the county. To volunteer, call Liz DeLaLuz at (616) 396-7811, ext. 205 or email her at ldelaluz@ottawaunitedway.org.
