ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – The Zeeland Township board had a first reading of an ordinance last night that would allow the township to regulate the maintenance and safety of certain building and structures that are deemed dangerous.
The Holland Sentinel reports that the ordinance defines a dangerous building as any building structure, residential or otherwise that meets one or more defects or is in one or more poor conditions outlined in the ordinance.
The defects and conditions include structures likely to fall, structures with exits not up to fire code, structures that have had their strength and stability compromised by fire, wind or flood. It also includes places that are unsanitary and unfit for human habitation.
The appointment of a Hearing Officer is also part of the ordinance who would take notices of dangerous buildings, investigate and make a decision on what should be done with the structure.
