HUSDONVILLE, MI (WHTC) – A driver is being charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer as well as driving while intoxicated after leading a deputy on a chase through Hudsonville last night.
According to an Ottawa County Sheriff news release, a deputy assigned to the city of Hudsonville was looking into a hit-and-run report that had occurred at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2 near the Hudsonville City Retail Plaza on Kelly Street in Hudsonville.
While investigating, the deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle at about 9 p.m. The suspect was driving a 2016 white Kia Sorento. The vehicle was stopped by the deputy and as he approached to speak with the suspect, the Kia fled the scene and drove southbound to Chicago Drive, then turned westbound on Chicago Drive.
The deputy pursued the driver, who eventually made it to 40th Avenue before losing control of the vehicle and striking a CSX railroad crossing guard assembly. After hitting the assembly, the Kia drove for a short distance along the train tracks and then left the tracks to travel down the southern gravel slope along the tracks. The Kia finally came to a rest against a CSX control Station.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital late on Saturday night. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending arraignment.
