KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says most hunters found success during the late elk season in the northern lower peninsula, despite warm weather putting them at a disadvantage.
Among the 50 people who won licenses in a random, weighted lottery of 31,000, 46 bagged an elk. The state schedules two hunts annually, with the first taking place over the summer.
The winter hunt tends to be easier because snow makes it difficult for elk to blend into their surroundings, but a lack of cold weather didn’t give hunters that benefit this year.
