LANSING, MI (WHTC) – The state will conduct an underwater survey of the Grand River bed between Grand Rapids and the Bass River Recreation Area west of Allendale. A hundred thousand dollars of general fund money that had been earmarked two years ago by the Legislature will be used to map the river bottom ahead of dredging that 22 and a half-mile stretch so that recreational boaters can navigate the river from Johnson Park in Grand Rapids to Lake Michigan. Ottawa County is not participating in this effort for various reasons, according to officials. The survey could start next month, weather permitting.
