GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, MI (WHTC) – A man was injured in a car accident early this morning on I-96 in Georgetown Township. Mitchel Lucas, a 64-year-old resident of Sparta, was east bound on I-96 shortly before 6 a.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle.
Lucas’ car then crashed into the concrete support for the overpass at the M-6 exit in Georgetown Township. Emergency crews from both Georgetown and Hudsonville had to extricate Lucas from his vehicle and Life EMS transported him to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Lucas suffered a leg fracture in the accident and is listed in stable condition.
He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
