HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland City Council has named Quincy Byrd to the at-large vacancy seat, making him the city’s first black councilman, according to the Holland Sentinel.
The council had a record 10 applicants to fill the at-large position that was left vacant when Nancy DeBoer was elected mayor. After hours of interviews and two rounds of voting, Byrd made the cut with seven out of eight votes. Councilman Brian Lynn voted for Ian McKay.
Byrd serves on the Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors and has lived in his West 22nd Street home for six years. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cornerstone University and is a metrologist with Stone Plastics in Zeeland.
