HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Ben Gardner scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists as Hope College opened its men’s basketball season with a 65-47 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse Friday night in the Badger State. The Flying Dutchmen trailed by eight early but dominated the second half, limiting the Eagles to just 18 points. Hope concludes its Wisconsin swing Saturday night with a matchup against defending NCAA Division III national champion Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Meanwhile, at DeVos Fieldhouse, Maura McAfee scored 18 points as the Hope women cruised to an 83-41 romp over Monmouth (Ill.). The Flying Dutch take on Bethany College of West Virginia in the championship game of Hope’s Tip-Off Tournament at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at DeVos.
