GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – A 51-year-old Coopersville man was sentenced to between 20 and 40 years in prison for second-degree murder. Michael Roersma pled guilty in a deal with prosecutors just before a trial on first-degree charges was to begin. He admitted striking and killing his 72-year-old mother, Sharon Roersma, more than 13 months ago at her home and then dumping her body into the Grand River. Michael Roersma also received a concurrent 10- to 15-year prison term for lying to sheriff’s investigators after the woman’s body was found by fishermen near Eastmanville.
