Wednesday’s Holland City Council study session covered a lot of ground, but newly installed Mayor Nancy DeBoer wasn’t the only city official getting used to a new role.
Freshman Councilman Brian Lynn said he was pleased to see so many people attend the study session.
“It was a lot of fun, my first meeting and I get to go through,” said Lynn, 24. “We’re here until a little after 9 (p.m.), but I love it.”
DeBoer said she’s learning by doing.
“Whatever new experience you go through in life, you just do your best and you learn from it,” DeBoer said. “It’s a great group of people to work with.”
DeBoer said the meeting lasted longer than she expected, but it was important to hear public comments from Fraternal Order of Police President Andrea Pinner and Pedro Ledesma of Holland Tejano Society.
Pinner appealed to city officials for a joint effort in decidign the future of the FOP’s Holland Township land, which is adjacent to a city site. Ledesma asked the board to consider permitting one-time alcohol service at an upcoming Civic Center event.
Council member also reviewed Wolverine Pipe Line Company‘s plans to replace a gas line under Lake Macatawa, rental registration rules and filling the at-large council seat left vacant when Deboer won the mayoral election.
The board also met in a closed session for City Manager Ryan Cotton’s annual performance review, which will be made public at next Wednesday’s regular council meeting.
