GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – An arraignment on open murder charges was today for Donald Spice, a 45-year-old Grand Rapids man arrested shortly after a burning car was spotted along I-96 near Marne during the overnight hours on Monday. The body of a 37-year-old Grand Rapids woman, Lori Vargas, was found inside of the vehicle, and detectives determined that she had been killed earlier on Sunday and was driven to the Wright Township site. Spice had been walking along M-11 Ironwood Drive about two miles away and allegedly confessed to killing his fiancé Vargas during an argument at a Calder City residence. Spice remains in the Kent County Jail pending a scheduled November 20th preliminary hearing.
