LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Johnson Controls has agreed to pay 3.75 million dollars back to the state after failing to create 400 jobs at its Meadowbrook advanced battery plant off of 48th Street in Holland. As part of the new deal with the Michigan Strategic Fund, JCI will maintain its 225-person workforce, at the cost of 8.75 million dollars if it fails to do so, lose a 125 thousand-dollar annual tax break through the revocation of a Renaissance Zone designation for the site, and invest 12 million dollars into the facility. Slow battery industry development was noted by the Strategic Fund board as a factor in the new deal.
