HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A project that has been in the works for eight years will be the discussion of a public hearing tonight in Fruitport Township.
The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians wants to build a casino where the old Great Lakes Downs horse racing facility used to be in Fruitport Township and federal officials are holding a public meeting tonight.
The proposed casino would be an 180-million-dollar facility with 69-thousand feet of gaming space, 17-hundred slot machines, a 220-room hotel, and options for dining and entertainment.
In June of 2014, Muskegon County Commissioners voted unnanimously to support the plans but the state Legislature and the Governor must also approve it.
The meeting will take place tonight at Fruitport Middle School on East Pontaluna Road at 6 p.m.
The proposed casino is expected to creats over 12-hundred jobs.
